Victory Mountain Lake Home
Our Story – Byron & Martha Matthews
We wanted to share a bit about our journey and the vision God has given us.
We met in 1989 at Columbia Bible College (now Columbia International University) and were married on June 22, 1991. For the next ten years, we lived in Columbia, with Martha teaching school and Byron starting businesses. In 1993, God began to give us a vision for creating a place where ministers and missionaries could find rest and renewal.
In 2001, we were led to the mountains of western North Carolina. Martha home-schooled our two children who are now out on their own and are great independent adults. Our businesses began to prosper and our dream of creating this special ministry also continued to grow. In 2025, in God’s divine timing, a wonderful property on Lake Santeetlah became available. This home was actually built in 1993, the same year that God gave us the original vision for this ministry. After extensive updates throughout 2026, we are eager to begin hosting ministry families.
Our Mission – Rest & Renewal
Change of Pace and Change of Place Brings a Change of Perspective
At Victory Mountain Lake Home, we believe that rest and renewal are essential for rejuvenation. Jesus called His disciples to step away and rest, and yet we understand that many in ministry rarely find a tranquil and peaceful place to retreat and truly renew their spirits.
Our aim is to provide such a sanctuary for you, where you can enjoy the peaceful views of the undisturbed Nantahala National Forest at Lake Santeetlah. Whether you choose to commune with God on the water in a kayak or pontoon boat, find peaceful moments hiking or bird watching, or simply relax on the deck or in the hot tub, we pray you have a wonderful and rejuvenating experience.
People from many nations will come and say, “Come, let us go up to the mountain of the Lord, to the house of Jacob’s God. There he will teach us His ways, and we will walk in His paths.” Micah 4.2 NLT
Now may the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, so that you will abound in hope by the power of the Holy Spirit. Romans 15.13 NASB
